Welcome to my photography blog where I share clients sessions and my life experiences on my little corner of the web.
Thank you for visiting my blog. Here you'll find my most recent client sessions as well as stories about my life and my family. Here is some information about me!
My name: Laura Kay Wootan
Age: 35 (although I am going to stop counting after this year)
Birthday: August 5th, 1973
My Family: I have a wonderful husband named Bryan and a six-year-old son that I love very much. My son only makes funny faces at my camera. He might just be slightly over photographed.
Education: Bachelors of Fine Art in Photography from The University of Texas Arlington. I graduated in 1997.
My style: I’m a journalist at heart. My portraits are story telling mixed in with classic portraiture. I strive to create timeless portraits. I believe that portraits are an investment in your family history. I believe children should see what their great grandparents looked like. I believe that every family should have a yearly family portrait. I believe a portrait really can say 1000 words.
The technical aspects of photography are every bit as important to me as the emotions and relationships I capture. You'll never find me shooting on anything but "full manual." I make all the decisions when I'm photographing. I don't photograph on automatic and hope the camera will do a good job.
I pose people. Photographers who claim not to pose because it looks "fake" just don't know how to pose their clients. Not posing people can make a beautiful Mom look ten or twenty pounds heavier than she really is!! I’m so not kidding. Posing people is an art. You can absolutely pose people and still have them look natural and animated. I pose my subjects because I want you and your family to look the best they can. If posing was a bad thing Tyra Banks on Next Top Model wouldn’t spend so much time talking about “the pose!!” Posing… it’s not just for supermodels! Posing is the difference between “snapshot” photography and real portraiture. I believe if you’re hiring a custom photographer they should be providing you a top-notch beautiful product that isn’t something you could do yourself.
I love beautiful light. I am comfortable shooting on location, in the studio and with natural light. I’m always prepared for whatever lighting situation I will encounter. I am obsessed with finding beautiful light and if it’s not there I can create it.
I believe without a doubt Mothers are the ultimate family historians. Mom’s that love photography are my favorite people. I fall in love with every baby and child I photograph. I love nothing more than to see how much they change over the years. I consider it an honor to be your family photographer.
Thanks for visiting! Please leave comments! I LOVE them!

Play hard or go home!!
I love it when people are open to doing awesome images for sports portraits!! The Lady Rattlers were looking to create some posters that would really stand out and grab attention! I think we totally made that happen! I love this poster! It was so much fun to create! I also really enjoyed getting to know these beautiful girls! They were such a delight to photograph! The best part of our session was watching them throw mud at each other! Haha This portrait was taken for their sports posters that you’ll be seeing around town! I know they’d love to see you at a game! Come support your local sports teams!! Thanks ladies! Have a great season!!
I made a little slideshow with some images from our session. I included the individual girls that did portraits and some of the funny mud ones!! So awesome!

Our phones have been ringing regarding our “love you” sessions this year and I keep getting the same question! What is “expert retouching?” Expert retouching is a service in which we will retouch your photos so you look your ABSOLUTE best… while still looking like you! Retouching itself is an art… one that I happen to love to do. Many people “use” photoshop but retouching at this level is a skill set that not everyone can offer! Many photographers outsource this service as well… but I do not. Your images are only worked on by me.
FIRST AND FOREMOST!! Of course good appropriate posing for body type and the right lighting are also essential for great portraits. Posing is a good thing… not posing you properly can make you look 20 lbs heavier than you are. I’m so NOT kidding.
I did not take the portrait below. This is a photograph of a model I bought off of www.IstockPhoto.com. She’s a pretty woman. Just an average photo. Check out the difference from the before and after!
Anyway the point of this post is… we pose and light you beautifully and we’re awesome at retouching you so will look your absolute best! You will love your portraits! I’m still waiting for a brave enough client to let me post their “Love You” session! Actually that’s a great idea for a blog contest!! Any brave women out there wanting to win a “love you” session?? I guess we’ll find out! haha!

Max is ONE today!! We just photographed his 1 year session! He’s SOOO cute and he totally let me love on him! He’s such a happy easy going boy! We had an awesome session! Here’s a quick peek!! I can’t wait to process the rest of his session! Thank so much for coming in guys! It was great to meet you!

I have the best job in the world. Friday morning I had the pleasure of photographing a session for the Faces of Hospice gallery. I spent the morning with Ms. DeeDee out in Luling. She was so delightful to photograph and oh boy does she love her hats! She loved to pose too! She was such a character and a flirt!! I can see why all her care takers love her. It was an honor to photograph her. Her portrait will be a beautiful addition to the gallery! The Faces of Hospice gallery tours various locations to help raise awareness of what Hospice care is an how it can benefit families.

How sweet are these two kiddos?? Meet handsome Gavin and his beautiful baby sister Emery! They’re a new to our studio and we’re so happy to have met them! Just a quick teaser! More to come of this beautiful family!

Meet the beautiful Hernandez family! It’s been a few years since I had seen Marcela! My goodness did she grow up! Time just goes way to fast! Marcela looks so adorable her little pig tails and she loved twirling around in my tutu! I love the collage art strip!! It was also great catching up with Veronica and Maria! Thanks so much for coming in!
I had the pleasure of photographing the maternity session of Ashlea a few months ago… and now the Boyle’s have a new addition to their family! Meet beautiful Bayley! Isn’t she sweet? Again ovaries twitching!! I’ve been photographing her big brother Brandon for a few years. He’s going to be a great big brother. Congratulations I’m so happy for you guys! Thanks so much for coming in!
Meet beautiful Kailyn! She soooo sweet and so cute! I love her!! She gets the award for being the best newborn ever! She never cried, she slept, and didn’t pee or poop once! Haha Those of you that have done newborn sessions with me before know that most of the time you’ll need a change of clothes because newborns always “go” at least once during the session! Not miss Kailyn! She’s a rockstar! I’m so looking forward to watching her grow this next year! It’s the best part of this job!!
I’ve been photographing this family for a while! I love little Braxsten! He’s so cute! He’s getting so big! It seems like yesterday he was just a little baby in his daddy’s hands! I love the image of him being tossed in the air! Here are a few from his pumpkin patch session too! Thanks for coming it guys! It’s always a pleasure!
